In conjunction with the 20th International Invention, Innovation, Industrial Design and Technology Conference and Exhibition (ITEX) 2009, the Ministry of Education Malaysia together with MINDS are jointly organizing the Malaysian Young Inventors Competition 2009.

The theme of the competition is “Inventing for a Better Tomorrow”.

The International Exhibition for Young Inventors (IEYI) 2008 is the 5th annual competition organized by Taiwan specially for young inventors in the Elementary and Middle Schools from across the world, both the developing and developed countries. It was first hosted by Japan in 2004.

Malaysia has participated in IEYI in previous years and it has also hosted one in 2005. This year, 2008, Malaysia submitted 5 teams whose inventions were pre-selected through the annual national competition, the Malaysian Young Inventors Competition (MYIC). MYIC is a joint project of the Ministry of Education Malaysia and the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS).
